Book Sale discontinued

The Library staff is very grateful to friends and patrons of the Library which have supported this sale for many years by donations of books.  Some books were added to the Abbey / Seminary Library holdings, some were sold at the sale, and still others were recycled.  The staff is also grateful for the Oblates, volunteers and seminarians who provided wonderful support by helping move, arrange, sell and pack up books.  Friendships were made and both the Library staff and its many volunteers profited by coming to know book lovers and patrons who came to our annual sale.  We will certainly miss seeing many friends we have come to know through the Abbey / Seminary Book Sale!

How to donate books to other groups

Since the Conception Abbey / Seminary Library will not be accepting donated books, we would suggest friends and patrons with books to donate look to the following organizations:

  • Your local public library: Many public libraries large and small hold annual or semi-annual book sales to help their patrons obtain good books at discounted prices.  Call your local library to see if books you would like to donate might fit their needs.
  • Congregational / parish rummage sales: Churches often hold annual rummage sales which may include offering good books at discount prices.  As fewer and fewer independent / local bookstores exist, donations to your parish or congregation might allow these churches to share good books with congregants and friends of the congregation.
  • AIM-USA: Benedictine and Cistercian monasteries of women and men provide assistance to monastic communities in the global South.  These missionary monasteries are interested in books in English.  Desired topics include Scripture, theology, spirituality and monastic studies.  If books you wish to donate fall under these categories, you can mail them to

                                                AIM – USA

                                                345 East 9th Street

                                                Erie, PA 16503

The Benedictine sisters of Erie will match the books received to the books requested and forward the books to monasteries in the global South for use by communities of woman and men in monastic formation.
